Welcome to Baltimore

Baltimore is full of welcoming residents, thriving businesses, and enriching educational opportunities. We celebrate this wonderful mix of people, places, and experiences. To celebrate our rich culture and work toward a just and inclusive future, we also embrace an honest view of our history. The Baltimore Story: Learning & Living Racial Justice is a digital humanities and engagement project, a community-based research project, and an educational resource that serves residents and students in Baltimore City and beyond. The Baltimore Story provides historical information, research opportunities, and learning activities.

The Baltimore Story is a collaborative effort between Baltimore neighborhoods and Loyola University Maryland. Community members work with Loyola faculty members and students to conduct historical and community-based research and complete neighborhood-focused projects that have measurable, positive impacts. The website will be expanding in summer 2022 to include teaching resources for educators interested in teaching Baltimore history from a racially just perspective. For this project, we are working with Green Street Academy to create educational materials that will be hosted on this website.

Other community organizations, such as the York Road Partnership, collaborate with Loyola to complete service-learning projects, as well as historical and community-based research that contribute to Baltimore. We also partner with The Baltimore City Historical Society. Our work with Loyola and Baltimore residents is ongoing, and we continue to add more materials, so stay tuned!
