New Name and New Co-Directors

We’ve been a little quiet around here over the summer and fall. But… that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy. Here are a few of the highlights:

New Name

We have a new name. We had originally titled this project Govans Heritage and Community Action because we were working predominantly with residence from the North Baltimore neighborhood, Govans. However, as the project has grown so has our engagement across Baltimore. In an effort to better reflect this work, we have changed our name to The Baltimore Story. By using the definite article “the” we are not suggesting that there is just one Baltimore story. We are excited to share THE many stories and histories we come across. So, keep visiting to see our website grow.

New Co-Directors

We have two new co-directors to help lead the project:

Stephanie Flores-Koulish is Professor and Program Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Social Justice at Loyola University Maryland. Her primary area of expertise and research has been within the field of Critical Media Literacy Education.

Lisa Zimmerelli is associate professor and Chair of the Writing Department at Loyola. She served previously as the Director of Loyola’s Writing Center where she led service-learning classes with a Baltimore non-profit.

We are so excited to welcome both to help lead this project forward.
